Hey guys, is everything fun with you?! Hope so! Today, I miss the land of the Falls! I miss a land that could easily become a place to live! I really like the climate of the city, the friendliness of the people and the explosion of natural beauty that exists in the surroundings. Today I’m here to share with you a list of tips on what to do in Foz do Iguaçu for first-timers.
Here I want to record some of the best experiences I had on the trips I made to Foz do Iguaçu, they are things you can’t leave behind on a first trip itinerary to Foz do Iguaçu, in Paraná, a city located on the triple border between Brazil , Argentina and Paraguay.
What to do in Foz do Iguaçu
In this post you will find the main activities that cannot be left behind in a very complete itinerary of 3 to 5 days in Foz do Iguaçu. It turns out that there are so many alternatives for leisure and tours in Foz do Iguaçu, that honestly it is difficult to list them all here for a short-term trip. In a destination with so many options for leisure and family entertainment, it can be difficult to give up one thing or another to enjoy the trip.
It turns out that in Foz there are alternative tours that can fill an entire day! There are other alternatives that you can do in a half day trip, however, when you go to Foz, choose to keep at least between 5 and 7 days of travel, so you will be able to better enjoy all the tour alternatives and not just stay in the running between one destination and another.
Check out below, a list of the main activities you can do in Foz do Iguaçu that are in fact unmissable and that can be carried out in a travel itinerary between 5 and 7 days with ease:
What to do in Foz: Parque das Aves
I’m kind of suspicious for mentioning this place first than anything else, but in fact, for fauna/flora lovers, there’s no better place to live an immersive experience in nature than Parque das Aves. This is simply one of the biggest immersion aviaries on the planet!
You will be able to walk among macaws, toucans, contemplate flamingos and even see other types of animals, such as turtles and reptiles. I believe that half a day trip is enough to get to know the place, however nature lovers and professional photographers may need more time, so organize your trip knowing that this place will need enough time for you to calmly see the animals 🙂
What to do in Foz: Iguaçu National Park
If you have little travel time, it can be interesting to mix the tours in the Parque das Aves with the visit to the Iguaçu National Park, they are an ideal combination for a whole day of activities in the middle of nature. I would do this on my first full day in Foz, I would arrive early at the Parque das Aves and head to the Iguaçu National Park in lunch time.
I don’t think I even need to mention the importance of visiting one of the biggest National Parks in Brazil, if you choose to visit Foz do Iguaçu, right?! It turns out that this is one of the most beautiful places in our country, with fundamental importance in the Paraná ecosystem and national postcard.
What to do in Foz: Marco das 3 Fronteiras
Another place that I think is really cool to visit at night (or even during the day) is the Marco das 3 Fronteiras on the Brazilian side. It has been completely overhauled in recent years and now has an entertainment center available to its visitors that includes shopping, dining and scenic activities.
What to do in Foz: Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant
Another very important point of interest to visit the triple border between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay is to take the opportunity to get to know the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant , one of the most important in Brazil.
It is possible to take guided tours inside the production command center and even get to know the turbines up close.
What to do in Foz: Poço Preto Trail or Macuco Safari
Know that interactions with the Iguaçu River do not stop only at the trip to the National Parks, on the contrary, it is possible to go ahead and take two types of tours that I highly recommend for those who have a little more free time in Foz: the Poço trail Preto, which is on the Brazilian side, or Macuco Safari, which is a boat trip on the Argentinean side.
It is necessary to reserve at least half a day of travel for each of the tours, however these tours can generate a high opportunity for interaction with the regional ecosystem.
What to do in Foz: Helicopter ride in Foz do Iguaçu
Another experience that I carried out in Foz do Iguaçu and which I believe to be essential for getting to know the diversity and having a global vision of the region is to hire a helicopter tour.
It is not one of the cheapest things to do in the city, however it is one of the only experiences that will take you to see with your own eyes the grandeur and diversity of the Iguaçu National Park. I did, recommend it to anyone who likes to have good memories do too.
What to do in Foz do Iguaçu: Shopping in Paraguay
An unavoidable thing on any trip to Foz do Iguaçu is to stop by the other side of the border and get to know Ciudad de Leste, the main commercial center of this triple border region. shopping in Paraguay is something that has never gone out of style, however it can be a little costly in times of high dollars.
One way or another, whether you buy it or not, having the opportunity to burn half a day’s journey walking from store to store in Paraguay can be a great entertainment alternative, just don’t go over the monthly quota for shopping in Paraguay, which is $500 dollars per person. Remember that if you buy something over 500 dollars, you will need to declare the item in the Federal Revenue.
What to do in Foz do Iguaçu: Tours in Argentina
Since we are here dealing with a city that is located on a border between 3 countries, there is nothing better than exploring the possibilities that this border offers, wouldn’t you agree?! A great alternative for a tour in Foz do Iguaçu is to go ahead and visit the city of Puerto Iguazu, which is located close to Foz and has excellent entertainment alternatives.
You can choose to visit Puerto Iguazu during the day and discover the Iguazu National Park, an excellent leisure/entertainment alternative for a half day trip (or even a full day). The experience on the Argentine side is a little different from the Brazilian side, there is a train that takes you to several stations, from where you can go to very interesting places within the National Park. I wrote a post specially on this subject, you can read it here: Iguazu National Park in Argentina.
What to do in Foz do Iguaçu: take some free time to get to know the city center
A nice thing to do is also have the opportunity to explore the center of the 3 cities a little more, each one has a unique style that can appeal to any type of traveler. Foz do Iguaçu has several stores and malls that can be excellent alternatives for sightseeing. To be honest, I even like to visit Muffato supermarkets, which are traditional in this region.
In Puerto Iguazu, the coolest entertainment alternative is to visit a fair that exists in the city center. There, you can buy spiced olives, eat a nice Argentine barbecue and special salami/cheese. In Ciudad de Leste there is a commercial center, shopping malls and cool alternatives for shopping.
What to do in Foz do Iguaçu: eat at one of the excellent restaurants in the city
There’s something else that can’t be left out of the Foz do Iguaçu itinerary: eat, eat, eat! I could take a trip to Foz do Iguaçu just to enjoy the sensational gastronomic scene that exists in this region: prime meats in Argentina, food with Arab/Lebanese influence in Foz, and traditional country food in Paraguay.
There are several really nice restaurants that can be visited in this region: I recommend some in Foz that already have posts published here on the site, such as Buffalo Branco, Porto Canoas, Rafain, El Quincho del Tio Querido, among many others.
Well folks, with the activities listed here it is already possible to make a beautiful trip to Foz do Iguaçu, without a doubt this is one of the coolest regions to take a trip in Paraná. Have you ever met Foz do Iguaçu?
